Liverpool primed for big-name sale after Fabio Carvalho terms agreed – expert

Alex McLeish has insisted Liverpool are primed for a big-name exit after agreeing terms to sign Fulham winger Fabio Carvalho.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Scotland manager suggested the 19-year-old could be a long-term replacement for any of the “three amigos” – Mo Salah, Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane.

As revealed by Football Insider on Monday (28 March), Liverpool have agreed a deal in principle to sign Fabio Carvalho on a free transfer this summer.

The Reds missed out on striking a deal in January, although they managed to sign Luis Diaz from Porto.

Firmino, Salah and Mane are all out of contract in 2023.

With Diaz on board and Carvalho set to join, McLeish suggested Liverpool are ready to let one of their star trio go.

McLeish told Football Insider’s Russell Edge “Why did they buy Diaz? It’s evident that he is earmarked to be in the new generation. That’s what it is. Diaz has been an absolute find for them.

“You would think they’ve done their homework on this one (Carvalho) as well. Who knows who he’s going to replace.

“The three amigos have been absolutely fantastic with the barrel-load of goals they’ve scored.

“Firmino has probably been more of a rubber duck at times with assists. Not as many goals as the other two but very, very effective for the team.

“All good things come to an end. That’s why Liverpool are doing what they’re doing with Diaz. They’re looking at others to come in. They’ve done all their specific homework on these players worldwide.”

The Sunday Mirror’s David Lynch, speaking to Anfield Watch (29 March) claims only two of Mane, Salah and Firmino are likely to end up staying at the club.
