Liverpool regret letting 22-year-old leave in summer, they want him back already

Liverpool are already regretting one of their big summer sales with plans in place to bring the player back already.

Arne Slot’s side had a very busy transfer window ahead of the 2025-26 campaign, breaking the British transfer record twice.

Early in the summer, Florian Wirtz came in from Bayer Leverkusen for a reported fee of £116million.

However, the midfielder then had his price tag usurped as Liverpool signed Alexander Isak from Newcastle United for £125m.

Harvey Elliott could return to Liverpool

Harvey Elliott joined Aston Villa on loan from Liverpool over the summer, with a £35m obligation to buy clause in place if he reaches 10 appearances this season.

However, the winger has struggled in the Midlands and has not played a single minute in the past five games under Unai Emery.

Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – believes that with their current issues, Liverpool are wishing that they could call upon Elliott right now.

Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, Wyness insisted that the England Under-21 international could still return to Merseyside.

Wyness added that he is surprised by how the situation has panned out, as Elliott is a good player.

He told Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast: “I am surprised because I think he’s a good player, but he hasn’t quite taken the eye of Emery.

“Now, there’s also a big conspiracy theory going on right now. He’s on loan, and if he gets 10 games, then he triggers the obligation to buy. There’s talk that Liverpool want him back as well, so if the loan isn’t confirmed, then he could come back to Liverpool.

“Perhaps Liverpool are wishing that they had him there right now on the bench while they’ve got issues with all these new expensive signings. A lot of the Liverpool fans I’ve been speaking to would have been much happier to have Elliott on the field than some of these other players.”

Liverpool eye £100m Mohamed Salah replacement

Meanwhile, Liverpool are reportedly interested in Brighton star Yankuba Minteh as a new wide option and potential replacement for Mohamed Salah.

That is according to former Man United and Blackburn chief scout Mick Brown, who claims that Brighton could demand as much as £100m for the winger.

Minteh has impressed for Brighton this season, with one goal and three assists in 10 games so far, but there are concerns about his potential price tag.

This comes after Football Insider revealed on 24 October that Salah has a “problem” at Liverpool as he is struggling to match the lofty expectations he has set for himself.
