Expert issues ‘stunning’ Liverpool claim as behind-the-scenes images emerge

Liverpool have “stunning” physical statistics throughout the season partly due to their rigorous pre-season testing.

That is the view of medical expert Ben Dinnery, who runs the Premier Injuries site and has a background in injury and data analysis.

Liverpool’s media team released a batch of photos from the first day of pre-season assessments last Monday (4 June).

The likes of Jordan Henderson, Roberto Firmino and James Milner were seen completing supervised gym work and undergoing fitness tests at the AXA training centre.

The rest of the squad underwent the same battery of assessments in the subsequent days ahead of the Merseysiders’ pre-season tour of Thailand and Singapore.

Jurgen Klopp’s side routinely top the charts in the Premier League in terms of their physical output.

Dinnery explained how the club’s rigorous pre-season physical is key to their performance metrics.

“We’re looking at baseline testing here,” he told Football Insider’s Adam Williams.

“It’s all about seeing where they are and how they are performing. That will enable them to benchmark against those performance metrics that they have in the club and against other players in the squad.

“That helps the player and the club understand exactly where they are at. It also gives you a roadmap to reach your targets and gold.

“We all know that their level in recent seasons has been absolutely stunning. This is all part of the processes that they have in place to help achieve that.”
