Liverpool season ‘in real jeopardy’ after another ‘massive’ injury blow – pundit

Paul Robinson has claimed the latest injuries to Diogo Jota and Luis Diaz are “a nightmare” for Liverpool ahead of a “critical” period.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Spurs and England number one said the news puts Jurgen Klopp’s side’s season “in real jeopardy.”

As reported by The Athletic‘s James Pearce (12 December), Diaz is expected to be sidelined for around three months after having surgery on his knee.

Jota is not expected to return until February as he continues his recovery from a calf problem.

Liverpool play Real Madrid in the first leg of their Champions League last 16 tie on 21 February.

When asked by Football Insider for his reaction to the latest news, Robinson said: “It’s a massive blow. I think that puts their season in real jeopardy.

“They have a lot of games coming up in January and then they have the next round of the Champions League against Real Madrid. It is going to be a critical time in their season where they need to turn things around.

“To be missing two of your best forwards is a nightmare. They have other options but they are two of the best they have got.

“Jurgen Klopp probably cannot believe his luck this season. They have had so many injuries. I’m not sure he’s ever had a full squad to pick from.”
