Liverpool star Andy Robertson sends message as exit confirmed after Celtic latest

Andy Robertson has reacted to news of one of his teammates’ departures on social media amid rumours that he could soon leave Liverpool for Celtic.

Robertson is a modern-day Liverpool legend for his impressive exploits in some highly successful years as a club since his £10million move from Hull City in 2017.

He has proved himself as one of the best bargains in the Reds’ history over the last eight years, but is not Arne Slot‘s first-choice left back anymore after Milos Kerkez moved to Merseyside in the summer window.

Football Insider revealed ahead of this season that Liverpool were weighing up whether to let Robertson leave, amid interest from Atletico Madrid, but he remained to largely play second fiddle to the Hungarian.

The 31-year-old has only started four Premier League games so far this term, with rumours around a potential Anfield departure arising once more this month.

Andy Robertson reacts as Luke Chambers joins Charlton on loan

The Reds have been quiet on the transfer front in January so far, with youngster James Norris the only exit prior to Wednesday after he joined Shelbourne permanently in the first week of the month.

Sources have told Football Insider that Celtic are keeping tabs on Robertson as he struggles for game time at Liverpool, but they are more likely to move for his services when his contract expires in the summer.

Another Reds star has now made an exit, however, with 21-year-old Chambers joining Charlton Athletic on loan for the rest of the season.

The young left back took to Instagram to announce his move, saying: “Absolutely buzzing to be joining such a great club, can’t wait to get going, see you all on Saturday.”

Robertson replied to his post to send a message that said: “Good luck mate” with a praising hands emoji, while Reds forward Jayden Danns replied: “Love it (you)” and Jeremie Frimpong and Rio Ngumoha each left a like.

What has Robertson said about his Liverpool future?

Football Insider recently revealed that Liverpool are not planning to let Robertson leave in January, and so he is set to see out his contract as it stands, with talks over a new deal at a standstill.

The Scotland captain is still 31-years-old, so will feel he has time left at the top of the game, but he recently admitted that he is unsure what the future holds amid his desire to play each week.

When asked if he wants to stay at Anfield, he said: “Yes, but it’s a difficult question. I’ve got five months left and we need to see what the option is to stay or if there’s options to go and things like that.

“I can focus on the last eight and a half years…I think Jurgen Klopp left me out for one game and I was raging, so I’m a player who wants to play.

“I have a different role here this season which I’m getting enjoyment out of, but at the end of the day, footballers want to play. If anyone is sat happy on the bench, then they don’t belong at any football club.”

Those quotes certainly point to a likely exit for the Scot come the end of his contract in June, but where he will head to next is unclear, with Celtic a possible destination if they remain interested ahead of next term.
