Liverpool news: Roberto Firmino ‘highly unlikely’ to play v Chelsea, could be out ‘six weeks’ – medical expert

Roberto Firmino could be out for as long as six weeks after his latest hamstring setback at Liverpool.

That is the view of injury expert Ben Dinnery, who runs the Premier Injuries site and has a background in medicine and data analysis.

Firmino has not featured since he scored Liverpool’s opener in the 2-0 win at Inter Milan last Wednesday (16 February).

The Merseysiders are in action against Chelsea in the League Cup final on Sunday (27 February).

Jurgen Klopp told club media on Tuesday (22 February) that a decision would be made “later in the week” over Firmino’s availability for the clash.

But Dinnery argues that it is very unlikely that the 30-year-old will feature at Wembley.

“Jurgen Klopp’s said he’s seen him in training and he looks great, but that he always looks great,” he told Football Insider‘s Adam Williams.

“He doesn’t know if there is going to be a late decision with regards to the cup final. I would suggest with Firmino that is highly, highly, highly unlikely.

“With some of the muscle problems that he’s already had this season, it’s a difficult one.

“Typically, when he suffers these setbacks, they tend not to be on the lower end of the scale. It can be a four, five or six-week return to play.

“The language Klopp shows us we’re not just looking at a seven to 10-day turnaround. I think we’re looking at a grade two injury.”

Firmino has eight goals and four assists in 24 outings this term.

Diogo Jota, who is in the form of his life, is also a doubt for the League Cup final.
