Expert can’t believe James Milner after behind-the-scenes Liverpool news – ‘this defies all logic

Liverpool star James Milner’s enduring fitness “defies all logic”.

That is the view of medical expert Ben Dinnery, who runs the Premier Injuries site and has a background in injury and data analysis.

Milner, now 36, was among the players who returned for pre-season last week ahead of Liverpool’s tour of Thailand and Singapore.

As relayed by the Liverpool ECHO last Monday (4 July), Milner won the club’s annual lactate test for the seventh season running.

The gruelling pre-season test measures players’ lactic acid levels and tests their aerobic endurance.

Dinney saluted Milner’s remarkable longevity and age-defying fitness levels.

“He epitomises how you should lead your life as a footballer both on and off the pitch,” he told Football Insider’s Adam Williams.

“He maybe isn’t blessed with the greatest footballing ability but he can eke every single ounce of potential out of his body. It almost defies logic.

“He is one of the first to step up on the big occasions. He will always help the team regardless of where he is on the pitch. You rarely see below a seven out of 10 from him. He just gets on with it. Zero complaints.

“All those compliments from Jurgen Klopp come back to this stage in the season. This is what puts him in the position to perform when needed.”

Milner played 60 minutes in Liverpool’s 4-0 defeat to Man United in Bangkok on Tuesday (12 July).
