Darwin Nunez is a “disgrace” and set to miss multiple Liverpool matches – expert
Darwin Nunez is a “disgrace” and has a “wild side” that makes it very difficult for Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp to completely trust him.
That is according to ex-Leeds United forward Noel Whelan, who is a huge fan of the Uruguay international but believes he needs careful handling from his manager.
Nunez already has one Liverpool sending-off to his name after just months at the club after being sent off on his first Premier League start against Crystal Palace in August for a headbutt.
He further demonstrated his reckless side during Uruguay’s tempestuous World Cup showdown against Ghana on Friday that resulted in their elimination from the competition.
Nunez was booked for blatantly trying to stamp on the penalty spot in a bid to mess up the turf after Ghana were awarded a first-half penalty.
The Liverpool forward was one of several players from both sides to surround the referee inside the Uruguay box , and footage clearly shows his attempts to ruin the penalty spot.
The 23-year-old was booked and Ghana skipper Andre Ayew then missed his penalty in a match that Uruguay won 2-0 but did not do enough to prevent their exit from the competition.
“It’s disgraceful from Nunez,” Whelan told Football Insider. “It’s dishonest and completely blatant – he is not even trying to hide what he is doing.
“I would like to see officials make an example of players who are caught red-handed cheating – and give them red cards. Going to 10 men and getting banned might make them think twice.
“You can see they are clearly willing to risk a yellow to give their team some kind of advantage.
“Nunez has a horrible side to him. He’s a brilliant player, although we haven’t seen them best of him at the World Cup, but he has a nasty edge to his game.

“Klopp and the Liverpool coaches are going to have a difficult time controlling him and stopping him getting stupid yellows and reds.
“He is out of order at times, and that petulance is a problem. I fully expect him to get a few red cards and multiple extended bans over the next few seasons.”
