Football Insider exclusively revealed on Monday (26 June) that Aberdeen are leading the race to sign Liverpool defender Williams, with the the Scottish outfit hoping to secure the 22-year-old on a season-long loan and have made their approach to the Reds.

The two clubs recently struck a deal to send Leighton Clarkson north of the border on a permanent basis following a successful temporary stint.

Aberdeen are facing competition for Williams’ signature but are understood to currently be the frontrunners to get a deal over the line, as Barry Robson’s side are eager to get reinforcements in as they prepare for a possible run in the Europa League next term.

With a potential deal on the cards, Hutton believes that it is a transfer that will suit all parties.

“I think it’s a good step in these young boys’ careers, and it’s obviously brilliant for Aberdeen.” He told Football Insider.
