Expert: Andy Robertson and two Liverpool teammates thrilled after official announcement

Some injured Liverpool stars will be relieved that Sunday’s (18 September) match against Chelsea has been postponed.

That is the view of medical expert Ben Dinnery, who runs the Premier Injuries site and has a background in injury and data analysis.,

Liverpool announced on Monday (12 September) that the clash against Chelsea had been called off.

The Reds were due to play Wolves last Saturday (10 September) but that match was also postponed after the passing of Queen Elizabeth II.

Jurgen Klopp’s side will, however, host Ajax in the Champions League on Tuesday (13 September).

But, with the upcoming international break taken into account, it will then be almost a month before they play again.

That will be relief to players like Andy Robertson, Jordan Henderson and Naby Keita who are battling to regain fitness, claims Dinnery.

I think there are two schools of thought here,” he told Football Insider’s Adam Williams.

“First and foremost, from a squad management perspective, you could maybe name Andy Robertson, Jordan Henderson and Naby Keita as the currently injured players you would bring in and rotate around European fixtures.

“When you don’t have those players available, you are more reliant on the core nucleus.

“Players are fatigued, stressed and out of form. Klopp has maybe been forced to use some of these players when ideally he wouldn’t have liked to.

“From that perspective, it’s an opportunity to regroup and refocus, to bring players in and concentrate on the eight games before the World Cup.

“On the other hand, they are in relatively poor form, and they will want to address that and for the next game to come around as quickly as possible.

“Psychologically, when you’re seeing Man City and Arsenal blazing a trail, you don’t want those teams to build up a gap on you.

“It’s all when and good having games in hand, but you don’t know when these games are going to be rescheduled.

“It’s feast or famine at the moment. You’re worried about the festive period and the physical demands on the players, but they might also have a month’s break now as well as the winter break.”
