Sources: Liverpool takeover price soars after confirmed overseas news
UEFA and FIFA’s victory over the remaining Super League plotters at the European Court of Justice has increased confidence among potential Liverpool investors, Football Insider has learned.
The European Union’s highest legal authority has recommended that UEFA and FIFA are entitled to sanction clubs that join breakaway competitions.
The verdict is not legally binding but a full decision from the Luxembourg court is due along the same lines in the spring.
A legal source told Football Insider in advance of the recommendation that a positive verdict in favour of FIFA and UEFA is expected to strengthen Fenway Sports Group’s hand in their efforts to secure investment in Liverpool.
It is believed that the deteriorating chances of clubs on the continent relaunching the Super League reinforce the Premier League’s status as the world’s most lucrative club competition.
That in turn means Liverpool’s broadcast and commercial income will remain high for years to come, thereby fortifying their value in the eyes of investors.
FSG have already confirmed that their stance on the Super League has not changed since they abandoned the project along with eight co-conspirators in April last year.
The strength of feeling alone among supporters is likely to deter any attempts by Premier League clubs to join a future breakaway competition.
The news that the UK government will introduce an independent regulator for football in 2023 is another bulwark against the likes of Liverpool upsetting the status quo.
FSG went public with their desire to take on external investment in the Merseysiders last month, although it is not known for certain whether that is in the form of a full takeover or partial buyout.

Consortiums from the United States, India, Saudi Arabia and Qatar have all been linked with a deal.
A source told Football Insider on 29 November that interested parties have been made aware that Premier League TV rights could fall in value by as much as £750million by the next auction.
