Liverpool work on signing Andy Robertson replacement – sources

Liverpool are looking to sign a new left-back who can work as a long-term replacement for Andy Robertson, sources have told Football Insider.

Speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, senior correspondent Pete O’Rourke revealed that this isn’t a “top priority” but something the club are looking into.

Robertson is still considered the first-choice left-back this season, and if the 30-year-old is fit then he will play for Arne Slot.

The Reds also have Konstantinos Tsimikas as a back-up option to the Scotland international for the 2024-25 campaign.

However, Slot wants to bring in a new left-back who can be pushed as a long-term plan to replace long-time untouchable Robertson in the first team eventually.

Rennes full-back Adrien Truffert is on the radar of the Premier League giants as potentially being capable of filling that gap.

The 22-year-old has been impressing in Ligue 1 and has become a regular starter in the Rennes team.

He played 43 games for the French outfit last season, scoring two goals and providing seven assists.

His passing range could make him an ideal replacement for Robertson, considering he’s already got 21 assists in his career.

Even though Liverpool aren’t looking to replace Robertson immediately, one defender the club are hoping to move on is Joe Gomez.

Football Insider reported that the England international has informed the club he wants to leave, and Aston Villa have made an approach to sign him.
