Liverpool deal for Jude Bellingham ‘almost done and watertight’ – pundit

Paul Robinson has claimed the World Cup has “thrown a spanner in the works” for Liverpool and their pursuit of Jude Bellingham.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Spurs and England number one suggested the 18-year-old’s performances in Qatar have led to increased interest from Real Madrid and Man City.

Football Insider revealed last Saturday that Bellingham’s father Mark wants him to join Liverpool but the player himself has had his team turned by Man City and Real Madrid.

Liverpool

Wolves’ Matheus Nunes, who joined from Sporting Lisbon in the summer for £38million, is reported by the Mail to be an alternative option.

When asked by Football Insider for his thoughts on the latest regarding Bellingham’s future, Robinson said: “Champions League football will be a huge draw for Bellingham.

“I thought that deal was almost done and watertight.

“I think the World Cup has thrown a spanner in the works. The likes of Real Madrid and Man City are going to do everything they can do sign him now.

“Therefore, if Liverpool do not qualify for the Champions League they could be in trouble. It will be down to the player’s preference.

Liverpool

Liverpool are struggling but others are as well. There is still a good chance they will get Champions League. It would be helped by a midfielder joining in January.

“If Bellingham comes to England Liverpool and Man City are the only two options in my opinion.”
