Liverpool tipped to agree Salah deal after ‘huge’ update via Sky in last 24 hrs – pundit

Noel Whelan has insisted Liverpool will be able to agree to renewed terms with Mohamed Salah.

The former Leeds striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, suggested the 29-year-old will want to stay at Anfield.

This site revealed earlier this month (11 December) that Liverpool are increasingly hopeful of agreeing new terms with Salah despite his £500,000-a-week wage demands.

Reds owners FSG have long wanted a deal in place ahead of 1 January, when the next transfer window opens, but are unwilling to completely bow to Salah’s pay demands.

Speaking to Sky Sports yesterday (19 December), manager Jurgen Klopp insisted “really good conversations” are taking place about Salah’s future at the Merseyside club.

Whelan hailed Salah as “the best in the world right now”.

“It’s only natural that there are negotiations and that is massive news from Klopp, this is a massive contract for both player and club,” he told Football Insider‘s Ewan Kingsbury.

“Both sides have to walk away happy from this deal. There’s no doubt that he’s going to be demanding quite a lot of money – and why not? He’s probably the best in the world right now, he’s in a strong position.

“But look, Liverpool can’t afford to lose him and I think Salah will want to stay. It’s a huge plus they are talking and those talks are going well. It’ll take time, but I expect the deal to be done.”

The Egyptian has just 18 months remaining on his current deal.

Salah has scored 22 goals and registered 11 assists in 24 Liverpool games this term.

The former Chelsea winger has netted 147 times since joining the Reds in 2017.

In other news, Liverpool have been tipped to hijack a European giant’s talks to sign an 18-goal sensation loved by Jurgen Klopp.
