Liverpool tipped to complete buy-to-loan Calvin Ramsey deal after transfer news – pundit

Alan Hutton has tipped Liverpool to sign Calvin Ramsay and loan him straight back to Aberdeen.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Tottenham and Aston Villa full-back claimed Ramsay’s development would be best served by continuing at Aberdeen.

The right-back, 18, has emerged as a key player for the Dons this season and has caught the eye of Liverpool.

The Sun reported on Sunday (17 April) that the Reds are chasing the Scotland youth international and want him as cover for Trent Alexander-Arnold.

Joe Gomez has filled in at right-back in the absence of Alexander-Arnold in recent weeks.

“Ramsay is another player that I’ve been really impressed with,” Hutton told Football Insider assistant editor Russell Edge.

“For someone so young, he has the ability on the ball. A lot of youngsters are just rash but he’s very different and I’ve noticed that.

“It doesn’t surprise me that there are teams looking at him.

“But as well, he’s got time on his hand and he’s playing regular first-team football, learning week in, week out.

“Does he need to go down there and play youth football? Could he be loaned back?

“It depends how the contract is put to him. If there’s an opportunity to sign for Liverpool for the future but he can go back where he is and learn for the future then that would be a good deal.”

Ramsey has now played 37 times across all competitions for Aberdeen, including 31 appearances this term.

He is under contract at Pittodrie until the summer of 2024.
