‘Liverpool tipped to hire Robbie Fowler to help Darwin Nunez after PSG loss’

Darwin Nunez needs help from a psychologist and a former player after Liverpool were knocked out of the Champions League by Paris Saint-Germain, Troy Deeney claimed.

Following an incredible smash-and-grab first leg at the Parc des Princes, with Harvey Elliott scoring the winner for Liverpool at the death, all that hard work was undone within 12 minutes on 11 March.

Ousmane Dembele netted his 29th goal of the season, totally silencing Anfield with a goal that eventually sent the game to extra time and penalties, then heartbreak for Arne Slot‘s team.

Liverpool fans have been hounding after Nunez all season, with the Uruguayan missing far too many chances in front of goal, yet he was still brave enough to step up and take a penalty against PSG.

In the cruellest of outcomes, Nunez saw his spot-kick saved by Gianluigi Donnurumma, and so too did Curtis Jones, and Deeney now believes speaking with a former legendary striker such as Robbie Fowler could help him overcome his struggles at Anfield.

Robbie Fowler hire to help Darwin Nunez thrive as Liverpool striker

Speaking live via talkSPORT [12 March, 10:55am], Deeney said: “I think it’s all in his head. He needs to sit down with a sports psychologist and figure out why he’s so emotional and so erratic.

“Once he can control that, he will be better. It’s the same with Man United, bring in one of these older players – Andy Cole at United, Robbie Fowler at Liverpool – and on a Thursday, go and work with them.

“Talk them through scoring from different positions, what they’re thinking, and just rehearse it.”

Arne Slot surely ready to part ways with Darwin Nunez after PSG defeat

Football Insider verdict

Mick Brown told Football Insider that Liverpool plan to sell Nunez this summer, with the striker failing to impress Arne Slot or his support staff this season.

The 25-year-old is often used off the bench, and while he showed his capabilities against Brentford in January, scoring an important brace, and scoring again recently against Southampton, the Reds might still cash in.

Darwin Nunez’s Liverpool career has been very hot and cold.

He has certainly shown bursts of talent, but with Liverpool aiming to win Premier League trophies and Champions League titles, Slot needs a centre-forward who will reliably bring goals to Anfield.

Given his performances so far during his time on Merseyside, there are few signs that suggest Nunez can be that player for the Reds moving forward under Slot.

There is no doubt that learning from someone such as Fowler, who scored 183 goals for Liverpool, would help the striker in the long-run, but the club need a striker to make an impact now.

Newcastle United’s Alexander Isak, therefore, is being heavily linked with a Liverpool move this summer, having netted 19 goals in the Premier League alone this season.
