Liverpool tipped to offer James Milner new deal after latest – expert
Alan Hutton has tipped Liverpool to offer James Milner a new contract.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Tottenham and Aston Villa defender hailed Milner’s performances this season and said he would not be surprised if the Reds kept him on at the club.
The 36-year-old’s current contract expires in the summer after signing an extension earlier this year.
On Sunday (27 November), sources told this site that the Reds are working on signing two midfielders next year with Milner, Naby Keita and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain all out of contract in the summer.
Whilst Keita and Oxlade-Chamberlain have hardly featured for Jurgen Klopp’s side this season, Milner has made 19 appearances for a total of 630 minutes so far.
The midfielder has also been deployed as a right-back on occasion to cover for Trent Alexander-Arnold.
When asked if it would be foolish for the Reds to let Milner leave for free, Hutton told Football Insider: “It is foolish to let players leave for nothing if you do not bring anybody else in.
“But I would imagine they will give Milner another contract.
“I think he has been outstanding. Whatever position he plays in, whenever he is asked to play he plays at a top level.
“So it would not surprise me if they kept him.”
Milner made his 600th Premier League appearance just before the World Cup break.

The former England international became only the fourth player in English top flight history to reach the milestone.
Speaking to club media on his achievement (12 November), the Anfield veteran said he wants to continue to contribute as much as he can to the club.
