Liverpool tipped to sign forward in January amid ‘huge’ injury fear – pundit

Paul Robinson has tipped Liverpool to enter the January transfer market to sign a forward.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Spurs and England goalkeeper expects the club’s recruitment team are “looking into” potential signings in anticipation of Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane’s participation in the African Cup of Nations.

The Reds are expected to be without Salah and Mane for up to a month from 9 January.

Jurgen Klopp’s forward options are already limited following injuries to Roberto Firmino and Takumi Minamino.

Robinson claimed similar injuries in January would likely be catastrophic for the Reds.

“If this happened during the African Cup of Nations it would be a huge problem,” he told Football Insider‘s Dylan Childs.

“Salah and Mane are going to leave a big gap when they leave.

“If they have the injuries they have now in February, wow, they will be in trouble.

“They will have the chance to address that area in the January window though. Perhaps it is something they are looking into now.

“You would think and hope that they will act knowing they are going to lose two of their best players for a significant period. They may have earmarked a forward signing in January.”

The Athletic‘s James Pearce reported on July 21st that West Ham’s Jarrod Bowen is a player on Liverpool’s radar.

The wide-forward has contributed nine goals and 10 assists in 54 appearances since moving to the London Stadium.
