Liverpool tipped to sign ‘wonderful’ Divock Origi successor after source’s reveal – pundit

Liverpool may have already identified a replacement for Divock Origi to continue their “wonderful” recruitment record, according to Alex McLeish.

The former Scotland boss, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, claimed the “seamless” arrival of Luis Diaz has been the “final nail in the coffin” for the 26-year-old at Anfield.

On Wednesday (23 March), a club source told this site that Liverpool have informed Origi they will let him go for free in the summer.

The Belgium international has three offers on the table with AC Milan the favourites to secure the striker on a pre-contract.

Diaz has impressed since making a January move from Porto, scoring twice in six Premier League appearances.

McLeish tipped Liverpool to repeat the trick with a replacement for Origi.

“He came back in last season, scored a few important goals for Liverpool and got some big praise from the manager,” he told Football Insider‘s Russell Edge.

“But he’s in a really important part of his career now, and he’ll be wanting to move on.

“However, they’ve brought Diaz in, and he’s just fit in seamlessly. That was the final nail in the coffin for Origi – you can understand why he wants to go.

“It’s a wonderful piece of recruitment. That’s the way Liverpool work.

“You’d think that they’d have someone in place for when Origi leaves. They’ll have their eyes on the ball, there’s no doubt about it.”

Origi has netted five goals in just 533 minutes of football for Liverpool this season.

The former Lille man has scored 40 goals in a Reds career spanning almost eight years.
