‘Liverpool to axe Trent Alexander-Arnold’ after Carragher’s reveal – fans rage

Liverpool fans have demanded Arne Slot benches Trent Alexander-Arnold after Jamie Carragher’s latest reveal regarding the full-back’s contract situation.

Football Insider revealed that Liverpool rejected a £20million offer from Real Madrid to sign the England international in January as the Merseyside giants remain adamant he will not leave the club this month.

However, Carragher had a more cynical view of the entire situation and believes the focus needs to be on the Premier League.

He posted on X, “The most important thing for @LFC in 2025 is winning the #PremierLeague. No one’s contract or future should come in the way of that! I love Trent as a lad & a player, but his team would’ve told Real Madrid to bid & also would’ve known LFC would turn it down.

“It’s to try & cover themselves when he leaves for free. Again it’s something the club/fans don’t need with a huge game coming up.”

Alexander-Arnold will be free to depart Anfield for the first time in his career this summer if a new deal isn’t reached with the club, which could see him move to the Spanish giants.

Liverpool fans are frustrated with Trent Alexander-Arnold

Many Liverpool fans have agreed with Carragher’s assessment of the situation and believe that he should now be “benched” as a response to the situation.

Alexander-Arnold has only missed one Premier League fixture this season which was due to a hamstring injury, but fans are hoping he’s now on the sidelines for their upcoming fixture against Man United on Sunday (5 January).
