Liverpool to launch bid for ‘world-renowned striker’ after Sadio Mane news – pundit
Alex McLeish has tipped Liverpool to make a move to sign a “world-renowned striker” if Sadio Mane leaves Anfield this summer.
The former Scotland manager, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, suggested the Reds “need” a proven, top-class centre-forward to replace the 30-year-old.
As reported by the Athletic on Wednesday (1 June), Mane is looking to leave Liverpool this summer as he heads into the final year of his contract.

The Merseyside giants are reportedly seeking a £42.5million transfer fee for his sale, with Bayern Munich among his suitors.
The report claims Jurgen Klopp’s men have previously shortlisted the likes of Jonathan David and Jarrod Bowen as possible attacking recruits.
McLeish insisted the Reds must sign a household name if Mane is to go.
“You’ve still got Diaz, who’s looking like a young replacement,” McLeish told football Insider’s Russell Edge.
“He looks absolutely brilliant. In some of the games he looked even better than the others on a given day.
“He’s still got to do what Mane does and do it for a whole season. I would think they will be looking at someone more experienced. A world-renowned name at their level.
“It won’t be an up and coming player they need if Mane goes. They certainly need one of the world-renowned strikers right now.”
Diaz, who signed from Porto in January, has scored six goals and contributed five assists in 26 games for Liverpool.

Meanwhile, Mane netted 23 times and chipped in with five assists in 51 appearances during the 2021/22 campaign.
The Reds are also set to lose Divock Origi when his contract expires this summer.
