Liverpool tipped to replace Joel Matip ‘soon’ after ‘incredible’ Jurgen Klopp reveal – pundit
Ibrahima Konate is putting real pressure on Joel Matip at Liverpool, according Kevin Campbell.
The former Arsenal and Everton striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, said Matip, 30, is first choice alongside Virgil van Dijk but suggested that could change amid Konate’s form.
Matip started against Man United on Tuesday night as Liverpool kept pace in the title race with a 4-0 win over their rivals.

The Cameroonian returned to the starting XI after Konate was preferred in Saturday’s FA Cup semi-final win over Man City.
Konate has starred for Jurgen Klopp’s side in 2022 and has scored three goals in his last three appearances.
Speaking to club media on Saturday (16 April), Klopp heaped praise on the defender’s “incredibly important” aerial threat from set pieces.
When asked if Konate was close to replacing Matip as first choice, Campbell told Football Insider‘s Dylan Childs: “The transition will happen soon.
“Konate is becoming a dominant force in the team.
“His minutes have been limited in the Premier League because Matip is so good. Matip is probably the first choice alongside Van Dijk when everyone is fit but make no mistake about it, Konate is right there.

“One thing he is good at, he gets goals. He is dangerous in the opposition box and he gets goals. He is a big lad and he gives the team an extra bit of speed at the back as well.
“I really like him. He is good on the ball, aggressive and has an effect in both boxes. Klopp knows there is no drop-off if he starts. Konate makes the squad even stronger.”
