Liverpool to ‘spend a hell of a lot’ amid confusion at ‘strange’ Luis Diaz situation

Liverpool could struggle to replace star winger Luis Diaz as rumours continue to emerge around his future at Anfield.

While the Colombian still has two years left on his current deal, Mick Brown told Football Insider that Liverpool are not happy with Diaz, and could be lining up his replacement this summer.

He has been an ever-present in Arne Slot‘s team this season, making 45 appearances across all competitions while notching 15 goals and five assists, but that might not be enough.

Supporters are often disappointed to see Cody Gakpo left on the bench in favour of Diaz, but with rumours suggesting that the latter wants a new and improved deal, there is some uncertainty in the final third.

Liverpool set to struggle finding Luis Diaz replacement this summer

Speaking live on talkSPORT (16 April, 12:50pm), Murphy said: “There’s talk on Diaz [leaving], which is a strange one for me. I like him a lot, and I think you’d have to spend a hell of a lot of money to get better than him.

“I know there’s a contract issue there, though. It’s the same with [Ibrahima] Konate,” making reference to the forward’s ambition to earn more money, which might not be possible at Anfield.

Only Mohamed Salah, who has extended his stay at Liverpool, and Gakpo have more goals in all competitions this season than the Colombian.

Supporters have every right to be excited about their team’s prospects, with Slot set to lift the Premier League title in his first season, especially after the news that Salah is staying at Anfield.

The next step, of course, would be tying down Virgil van Dijk to a new Liverpool deal, and after his star teammate put pen to paper, there is an increase in confidence that this will happen.

Liverpool need both Virgil van Dijk and Mohamed Salah.

Salah’s new deal is all the more important if the Reds are set for several changes in the final third, including Diaz, Darwin Nunez and Diogo Jota, who are all being linked with exits.

Losing three first-team players, albeit not all play such a vital role on the pitch, could be catastrophic to Slot’s plans this summer, with the owners unlikely to splash the cash on replacements.

There are not too many wingers in the Premier League better than Diaz, also given his ability to play through the middle, and the manager will want to focus on strengthening the squad instead of rebuilding.
