‘Liverpool to step up move for Bournemouth star after Dean Huijsen blow’

Liverpool have seemingly missed out on Dean Huijsen, but could be set to progress their interest in his Bournemouth teammates.

Huijsen is set to join Real Madrid this summer, with the move effectively a done deal according to reports.

The Spanish centre back has been followed by a number of top clubs, after his impressive first season in the Premier League with Bournemouth.

With the news that Ibrahim Konate may not sign a new Liverpool deal, Arne Slot could have done with getting in a new centre-back.

Konate is out of contract in just over a year, and Reds fans are fearing that they will get a repeat of the recent Trent Alexander-Arnold situation, when he joined Madrid on a free.

Liverpool refocus their sights

Despite not securing the signature of Huijsen, Liverpool have not given up their pursuit of some of the other talents at the Vitality Stadium.

Full-back Milos Kerkez has been linked with the Reds for a number of months, with Slot looking for a long-term replacement for Andy Robertson.

The Hungarian has had a superb season for Iraola’s side, playing in every single game so far and picking up six assists in the process.

It doesn’t stop there, with Liverpool also interested in Antoine Semenyo, who has scored nine league goals and managed five assists on the south coast.

Slot eager to go again

Football Insider Verdict

After picking up the Premier League title during his first season in charge, some may have thought that Slot would rest on his laurels ahead of his second campaign.

However, it seems as if Jurgen Klopp’s successor is just as hungry to repeat the feat, and Liverpool will be very active in the transfer window.

Of course, after losing Alexander-Arnold to Real Madrid, the Reds are already weaker than they were, but Conor Bradley provides a good replacement at right back.

It’s hard to find a position in Slot’s team that needs improvement; perhaps replacing the misfiring Nunez up front may be something he looks at.

Either way, it seems likely that Liverpool will once again be challenging at the top of the Premier League next season, as they look to defend their title.
