Liverpool told by pundit to accept £40m bid for Sadio Mane after journalist’s update – ‘it’d be criminal’

Paul Robinson has urged Liverpool to sell Sadio Mane for “as much as they can” and put the proceeds towards signing a replacement.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Tottenham and England goalkeeper said “it would be criminal” to let the 30-year-old leave on a free next year.

Mane has just over 12 months remaining on his contract at Anfield.

As quoted by Sky Sports (3 June), the winger alluded to leaving Liverpool when he said he’d “do what the Senegalese people want” this summer.

According to to the Daily Mail‘s Simon Jones (6 June), the Reds have slapped a £42.5million asking price on the Senegal international after rejecting a £25million offer from Bayern Munich.

The money raise will reportedly be put towards signing a replacement.

Robinson claimed £40million would be a great price for Jurgen Klopp’s side.

“It’s difficult to keep a player who wants to leave because they’ll be unhappy,” he told Football Insider.

“I find it strange when club’s allow players to run their contracts down and leave on a free. We have seen Man United do it so many times.

“To let Mane go on a free would be criminal. There has to become a cut-off point where you sell the player instead. It makes no business sense to allow a player to leave for free.

“Liverpool need to get as much as they can for Mane and put it towards the best replacement they can find.

“If they get £40million for a player with 12 months left on his contract, regardless of who, it is not a bad deal.”
