Liverpool told ‘huge’ defender offer will be accepted
Liverpool will have to offer a sizeable sum of money to prise Jeremy Jacquet away from Rennes in January as they do not want to lose him midway through the season.
Jacquet has been a regular starter at the back for Rennes this season after extending his contract with the club in the summer to 2029.
Liverpool have registered an interest in Jacquet, who has made 16 appearances for the Ligue 1 side so far this term, with Arne Slot aiming to bolster his long-term options at centre-back.
The Reds are not the only Premier League club keeping tabs on the 20-year-old’s progress, with Arsenal also interested in Jacquet ahead of a possible move.
As I revealed on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, Liverpool look unlikely to make a move for his services this month due to the fee that Rennes are likely to demand.

Liverpool unlikely to move for Jacquet this month amid lofty Rennes demands
Chelsea’s scouts have also watched Jacquet this season, so he is clearly someone who top clubs believe can make a real impact in the Premier League.
Liverpool’s centre-back options have been questioned this season amid their failure to defend their title win with much distinction, but the 20-year-old is not set to move to Anfield this month.
Speaking on the Inside Track podcast, I explained: “Rennes right now don’t really want to lose Jacquet midway through the season, they’re doing quite well in Ligue 1 in sixth position.
“He’s under contract until 2029, so it would take a huge offer in this transfer window to even make Rennes consider selling him.
“So I think it’s one of those where Liverpool are monitoring Jacquet, and keeping tabs on him along with all these other top European clubs, but I don’t think anything will happen in January.
“Maybe come the summer, there could be more potential for a move, whether that’s from Liverpool or some of his other suitors, like Chelsea, Arsenal, Real Madrid or Man United.“
Joel Ordonez move also unlikely for Liverpool in January
Liverpool’s search for centre-back cover has also led them to register their interest in highly-rated Club Brugge centre-back Ordonez.
The Ecuador international has played 105 times for Brugge since his senior debut in 2023, helping them to respective Pro League, Belgian Cup and Super Cup triumphs in the last two years.

Previous reports from his homeland stated that a deal for him to move to Merseyside was close, but Football Insider have revealed that Liverpool have no plans to sign Ordonez in the January window.
It remains to be seen whether Slot is allowed to sign reinforcements for his back four this month, but neither Jacquet nor Ordonez looks set to arrive anytime soon.
