Liverpool told the player they ‘should never’ have sold in the summer

Arne Slot continues to face growing scrutiny over his position at Liverpool in the midst of the Reds’ poor run of form.

Liverpool’s 3-0 defeat at Man City has left Slot’s side eight points behind league leaders Arsenal and facing an uphill battle to retain their Premier League crown.

The Reds have only won one of their past six Premier League fixtures, and welcome Nottingham Forest to Anfield after the international break.

Slot may face the sack if results do not improve, so the Dutchman is under pressure to return Liverpool to their previously excellent form.

Luis Diaz sale ‘should never have happened’

Speaking on Sky Sports, [November 13], former Chelsea striker Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink believes the club are still paying the price for an overhaul in the summer transfer window.

Hasselbaink believes one of the biggest mistakes was Liverpool selling Luis Diaz to Bayern Munich.

Letting Diaz go, in my eye should never have happened, they should have gone and got a winger then,” Hasselbaink said.

You have got Ekitike in the building, he is doing well, he hit the ground running he was scoring. Isak comes in and Ekitike goes on the bench. What does that do to Ekitike and what else does that do for the squad?

“Whatever you say is not good and that is the problem you’re going to get. You have that problem then on top of that you have to find the players who work.

Wirtz, don’t forget Wirtz in there you have to find a place.

Slot has been told to “take some accountability” over Wirtz‘s start at the club, who has yet to register a goal contribution in the Premier League so far.

Goals drying up for attacking stars

Slot is still searching for the best attacking dynamic on the pitch, with Mo Salah also struggling for form this season.

Alexander Isak has yet to score a league goal for the club, and his lack of fitness is hampering Liverpool up-front.

Hugo Ekitike meanwhile has scored just once in his last eight appearances after a fine start to life on Merseyside.
