Liverpool told to complete ‘perfect’ Sofyan Amrabat signing after what pundit saw – ‘I’m sure’
Noel Whelan has claimed World Cup breakout star Sofyan Amrabat could be the “perfect January signing” for Liverpool.
The former Leeds striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, insisted the Reds need two new midfield stars – with a “top dollar” deal for Jude Bellingham presumably on the back-burner until next summer.
According to French outlet Foot Mercato (7 December), Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has met with Amrabat’s representatives as the Merseysiders step up their pursuit of a new midfielder.
The report claims Tottenham and Inter Milan are also in the race for the Fiorentina star’s signature.
Amrabat has been one of the stars of this winter’s World Cup in Qatar, helping Morocco to an unlikely first-ever semi-final by playing all 480 minutes of action.
The energetic central midfielder is under contract at Fiorentina until June 2024.
Whelan insisted Liverpool have looked “very light” in midfield this term.
He told Football Insider’s Ewan Kingsbury: “He could be the perfect January signing.
“You’re talking about top dollar for Bellingham in January – and I believe Liverpool need more than one midfielder.
“The World Cup is a platform for players to put themselves on the world map. This is the biggest tournament in the world, with all eyes on every game.
“He’s been a massive standout in that Morocco team.
“He’s got energy, he’s got tenacity, he can control a game – and that should be everything that Liverpool are looking for.

“If there’s a deal to be done, I’m sure Liverpool will push for it. But it has to make sense financially.
“That’s the decision these teams have to make in the January window – but they’ve looked very light in midfield.”
