Liverpool told to pull plug on two signings known well to Ruben Amorim – pundit

Liverpool would be taking a “huge risk” by signing Sporting Lisbon stars if Ruben Amorim is appointed as their new manager.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, former England and Tottenham goalkeeper Paul Robinson warned Amorim, 39, that bringing previously successful players to the Premier League could prove a mistake.

Well-placed sources have told Football Insider (12 April) that the Reds are plotting raids for Sporting Lisbon aces Marcus Edwards and Goncalo Inacio, who have been key players for Amorim this season.

Football Insider also revealed (11 April) that Amorim has agreed a deal in principle to leave Sporting and become the new Liverpool boss next season.

Liverpool face ‘huge risk’ with Edwards and Inacio moves

Robinson feared that Edwards, 25, and Inacio, 22, may not settle in the Premier League and warned Amorim against recreating “exactly” what he did in Portugal at Liverpool.

“I think there’s a huge risk in signing those players,” he told Football Insider.

“There’s also a risk in going to another club and trying to recreate exactly what you did somewhere else.

“And there’s also a risk of going into Liverpool and trying to be like Klopp.

“If Amorim does go to Liverpool, he has a rare opportunity because managers don’t often get jobs when things are going well at football clubs.

“He could be getting one of the world’s best and historic teams at a good time.

“We’ve seen a lot of managers rely on players they’ve worked with previously, but look how it’s gone for Erik ten Hag at Man United.

“He brought players in from inferior leagues, like Antony, and the Portuguese league is inferior to the Premier League too.

“That being said, with the new recruitment team at Liverpool, signings will be a decision by all, not just the manager.”
