Liverpool told to sell Thiago only if giants submit ‘huge bid’ after Twitter update – pundit

Liverpool “can’t afford” to lose midfielder Thiago in January, according to Paul Robinson.

The former England goalkeeper, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, claimed it would take a “huge bid” to prise the 30-year-old away from Anfield.

As reported by Portuguese journalist Pedro Almeida on Twitter (November 10th), Thiago is “very appreciated” by new Barcelona boss Xavi.

The transfer specialist also insisted the Spanish midfielder has not “closed the door” on a potential return to the Catalan giants.

Thiago graduated from La Masia and played 100 times for the Catalan giants before moving to Bayern Munich in 2013.

The 46-cap Spain international has started just twice for Liverpool this term after suffering a calf injury in September.

Robinson insisted the midfielder’s potential departure could lead to the Reds securing “two or three” signings to plug the “huge hole” left by Georginio Wijnaldum.

“It’s obviously still a massive opportunity for him, but Barcelona are not the same side they were even one or two years ago,” he told Football Insider‘s Dylan Childs.

“Liverpool can’t afford to let Thiago go. They haven’t got the strength in depth in that area and he’s too important.

“It would have to be a huge bid to even get Liverpool to think about it. They could then go out in the window and recruit two or three in that area.

“Wijnaldum has left a huge hole, they are still really light in that area and relying on Henderson and Milner.”

Liverpool

Thiago has played 37 times for Liverpool, scoring just one goal.

The midfielder joined the Anfield side in September of last year in a reported £27million deal.
