Liverpool told to sign Frenkie de Jong after update from Spain on January deal – pundit

Alan Hutton has told Liverpool to sign Frenkie de Jong to strengthen the midfield.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Tottenham and Aston Villa right-back said Jurgen Klopp needs a player like De Jong to continue the club’s progress.

According to Spanish outlet Sport (15 October), the Reds could move for the 25-year-old as early as the January window if their injury problems persist.

The Merseysiders are currently missing Naby Keita, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and loanee Arthur Melo from the midfield through injury.

Liverpool face competition from Man United who tried to secure a deal for the midfielder during the summer.

De Jong currently has four years left on his contract at Barcelona.

Hutton has urged Liverpool to go after the Netherlands international.

He is a fantastic player,” he told Football Insider.

There is no getting away from that fact, we all know it. Of course it is going to come down to transfer fees and wages and things like that.

Does he come in to the Liverpool midfield and make it better? Of course he does. He is a top class football player.

Liverpool

I have always said I think it is an area where I think Jurgen Klopp will want to strengthen, whether it be January or next summer.

He will know he needs players in if he is going to continue the progress of Liverpool. That is no sleight on the players that are already there but I think De Jong would make them a better team.
