Liverpool told to sign Luis Diaz replacement in January as source reveals ‘two new signings lined up’ – pundit
Alan Hutton has claimed Liverpool need to sign cover for Luis Diaz in the January window – as they line up two potential new signings.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Tottenham and Aston Villa defender has urged the Reds to be “really careful” with bringing Diaz back into the fold after his injury setback.
The 25-year-old has undergone surgery after picking up a serious knee problem during the Reds’ Dubai training camp.
The winger suffered the original injury in the 3-2 defeat to Arsenal in early October and could now be out until March.
As quoted by the Liverpool Echo (12 December), Jurgen Klopp described the setback as a “smash in the face” as Diaz faces a lengthy spell on the sidelines once again.
It comes as Liverpool work on multiple potential new signings. Football Insider revealed on Tuesday (13 December) that the club are laying the groundwork for two new signings and at least one deal could be done in January.
When asked if the Merseysiders will need to sign cover in the January window, Hutton told Football Insider: “They might now.
“They probably hoped that they did not need to. If you rush him back and he comes back too quickly he can pick up niggly injuries so you have to be really careful.

“It is not ideal for the player or Jurgen Klopp. I think he can be a difference maker for them and they really need to hit the ground running in the second half of the season. So, they might look to bring somebody in.
“Obviously not a replacement but someone for this moment in time who can cover a few different roles in the attacking third. It is a real shame for him because I think he is a really exciting player.“
