Liverpool told to sign ‘perfect’ Trent Alexander-Arnold ally – Whelan

Liverpool can follow their “blueprint” again by signing Aberdeen right-back Calvin Ramsay to deputise for Trent Alexander-Arnold.

That is the view of former Leeds striker Noel Whelan, who was speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the 18-year-old talent.

According to The Sun (16 April), Liverpool are chasing Aberdeen starlet Ramsay in order to groom him as cover for Alexander-Arnold.

The Scotland under-21 international has played 31 times this season, scoring one and assisting nine.

Joe Gomez and James Milner have played in an unnatural right-back berth in the absence of the England defender.

Whelan claimed the Scotland youngster will add to the “structured, deep squad” at Anfield.

“Signing a talent like him fits their transfer policy perfectly,” he told Football Insider‘s Ewan Kingsbury.

“They’ve got things right for a number of years now in the transfer market, just as Man City have. That’s why every other team is so far behind them.

“They’ve got a really structured, deep squad at the moment – and they’re also bringing through the youngsters as well.

“Getting that cover and that shadow player to step in – that’s been the blueprint for a while now.

“If they can get a player like Ramsay in, when Alexander-Arnold is absent – there’s no change to the philosophy or the setup.”

“It’s getting to that time of the year now where they’ll be planning and working hard behind the scenes to get these types of players in.”

Alexander-Arnold has missed just four Premier League games for Liverpool this term.

Jurgen Klopp’s side sit second in the top flight and have advanced to the Champions League semi-final.
