Liverpool vs Nottingham Forest: Players who featured for both teams

Arne Slot and Sean Dyche are set to meet under unusual circumstances when Nottingham Forest travel to Anfield to face Liverpool.

The two managers are yet to go face-to-face on Saturday, 22 November, with Slot hoping to get back to winning ways after Liverpool were dismantled by Man City ahead of the international break.

Both clubs have impressive histories when it comes to domestic and European accomplishments, but with Forest last lifting silverware in 1990 and Liverpool in the Premier League title race, they could not be further apart.

Dyche will be aiming to drag the Reds out of the relegation zone this season, so ahead of such an important clash for both teams, here are some significant figures who played for both.

Stan Collymore

Stan Collymore helped Forest to promotion to the first division back in 1994, even scoring a key goal in a last-minute winner against Peterborough United.

He lasted just one season in the top flight with the Tricky Trees before signing for Liverpool in a British record deal at the time. He would go on to score 35 goals in 81 appearances.

The striker was involved in one of the Premier League’s most iconic matches, a 4-3 win over Newcastle United, and he was seen by many as one of the most dangerous forwards in the division.

Jack Robinson

After coming through the Liverpool academy, Jack Robinson made just 11 first-team appearances for the Merseysiders before leaving permanently for QPR in 2014.

Following a loan spell, he made a name for himself at Loftus Road before joining Forest on a free transfer four years later, where he went on to make 59 appearances in two seasons.

He was one of the most consistent defenders at the City Ground during his spell, earning a move to Sheffield United halfway through the 2019-20 campaign.

Neco Williams

Never given a chance to impress at Anfield due to Trent Alexander-Arnold, Neco Williams only had a handful of first-team games to his name before leaving permanently in July 2022.

Since joining Forest, he has become one of the best full-backs in the Premier League, is a trusted player at international level with Wales, and might be one of the ones who got away for the Reds.

The 24-year-old now has 122 appearances under his belt for the Tricky Trees and is one of the most favourable figures between the two sets of fans.

Jonjo Shelvey

It will be a surprise to many that Jonjo Shelvey is still playing football, plying his trade for the Arabian Falcons after leaving Burnley during the summer.

His career has taken a total nosedive over the years, but playing for Liverpool will be one of his proudest achievements, featuring for the Reds between 2010 and 2013.

After seven years with Newcastle United, he would eventually join Forest for £8million, a deal that many questioned at the time, and made just eight appearances in 2022-23.

Divock Origi

One of the famous players in Liverpool history, after his role in their Champions League win over Barcelona, Divock Origi is someone who remains a much-loved figure at Anfield.

His time at the City Ground, however, was far less successful, making 22 appearances during the 2023-24 season, notching just two goals contributions during a season-long loan.

There are multiple other players who featured for both clubs, but these are just five of the names which stood out the most before the two teams clash at Anfield this weekend.
