Liverpool want to sign two Dutch Eredivisie stars – sources
Liverpool are targeting potential deals for Feyenoord duo Mats Wieffer and Lutsharel Geertruida, sources have told Football Insider.
Speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, senior correspondent Pete O’Rourke revealed that Arne Slot could bring both Dutch Eredivisie players with him to Anfield.
Football Insider understands that the Feyenoord manager is close to becoming the next Liverpool boss, with Jurgen Klopp leaving this summer.
And O’Rourke believes he could take defensive midfielder Wieffer, 24, and defender Geertruida, 23, with him.
Liverpool want two Feyenoord players alongside Slot
Wieffer has made 42 appearances in all competitions this season, operating in both defensive midfield and central midfield, and is expected to represent the Netherlands at Euro 2024.
O’Rourke told Football Insider that the player is on Liverpool’s radar, having been looked at by the Reds and several other Premier League clubs before Slot was linked with the Anfield role.
Geertruida meanwhile has featured 44 times under Slot this season, playing all across the backline at the likes of centre-back, right-back and left-back, often as captain.
Speculation about a potential move to Anfield increased when the player was pictured watching the recent clash between the Reds and West Ham at the London Stadium.
O’Rourke claimed that Geertruida ticks a lot of boxes for Liverpool and will improve their defence, an area they want to strengthen given Joel Matip’s likely exit this summer.
He added that both players can be trusted by the incoming Liverpool manager on Merseyside, making life easier for the boss in the changing room.

There is, however, no guarantee that any Feyenoord players will be signed, with Slot needing to evaluate his options with Michael Edwards and Richard Hughes.
