Liverpool will be ‘worried’ after journalist reveals Fabinho ‘concern’ – pundit

Paul Robinson has claimed Fabinho’s form will be “a worry” for Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Spurs and England number one said Fabinho, 29, needs to “step up” given the availability of Liverpool’s other midfielders.

The Reds have endured a difficult start to the 2022-23 campaign.

Jurgen Klopp’s midfield has been plagued by injuries, Thiago Alcantara, Naby Keita, Jordan Henderson, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Curtis Jones have all missed games through injury this term.

In the 1-0 loss to Nottingham Forest, Liverpool fielded an inexperienced midfield of Harvey Elliot, Fabio Carvalho, Jones and Fabinho.

Speaking to the The Red Agenda podcast (24 October), journalist James Pearce said Fabinho’s performances this season have been “a concern.”

“Fabinho’s form is a worry. This is a time when he should be stepping up.

“The manager has got a lot of injury worries. He played three young lads in midfield against Nottingham Forest and Fabinho should have been the one who stepped up. He should be head and shoulders above everybody else. WHen you consider his age, he should be at his peak.

“Unfortunately, he is not playing particularly well. The Forest game was not a one off. He has been inconsistent for most of the season.

“Klopp needs him to be the main man in there. Henderson, [James] Milner and Thiago cannot play every game. Fabinho is having an uncharacteristic dip in form.”
