Alexis Mac Allister 'will sign' new Liverpool contract

Published on:

Alexis Mac Allister will definitely sign a new contract at Anfield after the Liverpool star revealed his disappointment over no extension.

That is according to former Manchester City financial adviser Stefan Borson, who exclusively told Football Insider that there's "very little chance" that he doesn't stay at Anfield.

Mac Allister has admitted to feeling "very sad" after not being offered new terms during the summer window, leaving less than two years on his current deal.

The 27-year-old has become a key figure for Andoni Iraola in 2026-27, notching two goals and one assist in seven appearances.

Liverpool announced a new deal for Dominik Szoboszlai back in July, and the Argentine was clearly hoping to join him in the announcement.

Now, Mick Brown has told Football Insider that Chelsea have set their sights on the talented midfielder, and they're unlikely to be the only ones.

Alexis Mac Allister to be handed new Liverpool contract

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, Borson believes that Mac Allister will eventually be offered fresh terms, dampening rivals' hopes of a hijack.

"I think there will be [interest]. There were some rumours that Man City were actually looking at him this summer," he said.

"They had made proposals this summer. But to be perfectly honest, they will sign a new contract with him.

"It's one of those where I think there's very little chance that it doesn't end up with a contract being signed.

"So, even with negotiation, and a bit of disruption, I would put quite a lot on the fact that it will happen."

Which other players deserve new deals?

In the summer of 2027, Virgil van Dijk, Alisson and Joe Gomez will all see their contracts expire if the Reds decide against offering new ones.

Of the three, Van Dijk and Alisson are by far the most important, but it remains to be seen what the club have planned for the duo.

And while Football Insider understands that Liverpool will take time to consider triggering the clause in Ronald Araujo's loan contract, that will need sorting.

Beyond these players, Rio Ngumoha will see his contract expire in 2029, and given the interest around him, the Reds could decide to offer better terms.
