Expert reveals 'the main problem Liverpool have with signing Michael Olise'
Liverpool may be forced to opt against making a move to sign Michael Olise given the finances involved in any potential deal.
The 24-year-old has become one of the best players in the world since leaving Crystal Palace for Bayern Munich, and remains a dream signing for Liverpool as a result.
There have been suggestions that the France international could soon look to leave Bayern, but given his importance to Vincent Kompany's side, they would demand well over £100million.
Former Man United chief scout Mick Brown told Football Insider that Liverpool could have been willing to match Olise's asking price if not for their recent spending sprees.
The Reds have not been shy to splash the cash in recent years, with fees of over £100million spent on the likes of Florian Wirtz, Alexander Isak and more recently Bradley Barcola.
However, those deals are set to restrict their spending going forward, and could block any move for Olise even if he is allowed to leave Bayern Munich next summer.
Could Liverpool make a move for Michael Olise?
Brown told Football Insider on 5 October that Liverpool could reignite their interest in Olise amid whispers he could be allowed to leave Bayern Munich in the near future.
Andoni Iroala’s side have been long-term admirers of the France international and see him as their dream target as they aim to strengthen on the right-hand side.
However, the money involved in any deal is expected to be prohibative to Liverpool's pursuit after their recent big spending on players who have endured mixed spells.
"The main problem Liverpool will have with signing Michael Olise is the money," Brown told Football Insider.
"We're probably talking well upwards of £100million for Bayern Munich to even think about letting him go, and are Liverpool in a position where they can pay that sort of fee?
"After the money they spent on Wirtz, Isak and Barcola, I don't think they'll be prepared to go out and spend over £100million again on another player.
"That deal for Wirtz in particular, things haven't gone to plan for him at all, so they will be very reluctant to have that sort of situation all over again.
"I'm not saying Olise would end up like Wirtz by any means, we've seen him do it in the Premier League before, but it's something that will come into Liverpool's thinking.
"I think that will be enough to block them making a move, so they might have to look elsewhere and miss out on Olise."
What is next for Florian Wirtz at Liverpool?
Given Wirtz's struggles since he arrived at Liverpool, questions are now being asked about his long-term future at the club and whether he could be allowed to leave.
Strangely enough, Bayern Munich are the club showing the most amount of interest in the attacking midfielder while rumours continue to circle around Olise's future.
Brown told Football Insider last month that Wirtz would be open to a move to Bayern Munich, with a return to the Bundesliga the ideal next step for the Germany midfieler.
While a mid-season exit would be considered unlikely, Bayern Munich are keeping a close eye on his situation, and could look to test the Reds' resolve with an offer.
Bayern Munich have been long-term admirers of the Germany midfielder having missed out when Liverpool landed a £116million deal in 2025, and could now reignite that interest.
