Federico Chiesa to join Liverpool's Premier League rivals - 'He wants to move...'
Federico Chiesa is eyeing a move to another Premier League club if he is allowed to leave Liverpool in the January transfer window.
The 28-year-old has struggled for regular minutes since his move to Anfield in 2024, but there is a feeling that his skillset could be a valuable asset for a rival club in the top flight.
A muscle injury has seen the midfielder miss the opening stages of the season, but given the competition for places in his position, he could remain down the pecking order.
Former Man United chief scout Mick Brown told Football Insider that Premier League clubs are keeping a close eye on Chiesa in case he is allowed to leave Liverpool.
The Italy international has a number of admirers, and there is a feeling that a change of environment and more regular game time could get him back to his best level.
Alternatively, a return to Italy will always be on the cards for Chiesa, with some of his long-term admirers in Seire A still keeping tabs on his situation at Liverpool.
Could Federico Chiesa push to leave Liverpool?
Football Insider revealed last month that Chiesa could push for a move away from Liverpool if his playing time does not improve upon his imminent return from injury.
Andoni Iraola has been afforded little time to assess the winger, but with other options in his position, he may find it hard to break back into the first-team plans.
As a result, Chiesa is prepared to look elsewhere in favour of regular football, and there is a feeling he could look to stay and prove himself in the Premier League.
"It will be interested to see where Chiesa ends up if he does leave Liverpool," Brown told Football Insider.
"Obviously there are going to be Italian clubs interested, they already know him well and quite often Italian players will look to return if they struggle in the Premier League.
"But I wouldn't rule out the possibility that he could join another Premier League club, because he has the assets and the skillset to be a success in English football.
"Things haven't worked out for him at Liverpool, but he could be an asset to another English club because he's got good pace, he's very direct and he can finish as well.
"From his point of view, because he's not playing regularly, he wants to move in search of game time, and if he can get that in the Premier League then it might be tempting for him."
What do Liverpool have planned for Chiesa?
Amid suggestions that Chiesa could push to leave Liverpool in the January transfer window, much will depend on the club's stance as to whether he will be allowed to move on.
The winger still has two years remaining on his contract at Anfield, and the Reds are in control over his future, although doubts are beginning to creep in.
Brown told Football Insider on 8 October that Liverpool are ready to accept offers for Chiesa in January as he is unlikely to play a significant role in their plans.
Questions have long been asked about the Italy international's future at Anfield, and he could have left in the closing stages of the summer window, but no offers were forthcoming.
Following the big-money arrival of Bradley Barcola during the summer, the winger has been forced further down the pecking order, and that is unlikely to change.
