Jarell Quansah has strengthened his chances of a return to Liverpool with another impressive performance for England in the Nations League.

Quansah remains in the Reds' thoughts despite being sold to Bayer Leverkusen for £35million last year.

Liverpool have until June 15, 2027 to exercise the £59.5m buy-back option they inserted in the deal to take the 23-year-old to Germany.

He has impressed in the Bundesliga over the last 12 months and is now a regular for England under Thomas Tuchel.

Quansah has mostly featured at right-back for the Three Lions, but proved his quality at centre-back against Czechia on Tuesday night.

Andoni Iraola should be seriously considering a move to bring him back to Anfield, particularly given the long-term uncertainty around his backline.

Jarell Quansah impresses as a centre-back for England amid Liverpool concerns

Quansah did well at the World Cup, but many fans and pundits questioned Tuchel's decision to thrust him into an unfamiliar full-back role.

He has since taken up the position on a near-permanent basis for Leverkusen under recently appointed boss Carles Martinez.

Tuchel decided to trust Quansah as a centre-back for the first time in England's final Nations League game of the international break against Czechia, and his decision definitely paid off.

The 23-year-old displayed his comfort with the ball at his feet as he had more touches (86) than any player on the pitch, created a chance and completed 75 of 76 attempted passes.

He was not dispossessed in 92 minutes of football, while his six defensive contributions were more than any other England player in their 3-0 win.

Quansah also won the most aerial duels (4) of any player on the night as he displayed just how much he has improved at the heart of the defence since leaving Liverpool.

It certainly feels like it is only a matter of time until his return to Merseyside is confirmed as he goes from strength to strength and Iraola eyes more defensive additions.

Liverpool hero has urged Iraola to activate Quansah buy-back

Quansah played down talk of a return to Anfield before the World Cup, insisting that he was focused on helping Leverkusen achieve their aims for the season ahead.

The Reds will be in the market for a centre-back in the coming windows as they only have two under contract beyond next summer, in Jeremy Jacquet and Giovanni Leoni.

Former Liverpool striker John Aldridge has made his feelings clear on a return for Quansah.

In his latest column for the Liverpool Echo, he said: "You know what I'd do? I'd be looking to bring back Jarell Quansah. There's a £56m buyback option on him and, for me, it's a no-brainer. He's gone to Leverkusen and is doing really well. He's playing well for England. For me, you need four really good centre-halves.

"It's a no-brainer to get Quansah back next year. Absolutely, 100%. As long as he wants to come. If they want him, they have to go and get him. Then next year, centre-halves-wise, we'd be really solid."
