Liverpool fans say the same thing about re-signing Jarell Quansah after red card controversy
Liverpool supporters have made their feelings extremely clear about signing former defender Jarell Quansah this summer.
The 23-year-old left for Bayer Leverkusen in July 2025, with little hope of minutes under Arne Slot, but the Reds were very smart in their business.
It emerged during the 2025-26 campaign that a buy-back clause had been included in Quansah's contract, sending supporters berserk ahead of the summer.
Ibrahima Konate has already joined Real Madrid, and while Jeremy Jacquet has already arrived, Virgil van Dijk is in the twilight of his career currently.
That just leaves 19-year-old Giovanni Leoni, who will soon return from his season-ending injury, which he sustained on his debut against Southampton in the Carabao Cup.
It would make total sense for Liverpool to go in for another centre-half over the coming weeks, but fans now want to steer clear of Quansah.
Jarell Quansah sent off in Mexico vs England
During England's dramatic round of 16 win over Mexico at the 2026 World Cup on Monday, 6 July, he was quite rightly sent off for a bad tackle in the 54th minute.
Those watching from Merseyside now believe he's a "liability," "reckless" and "naive". And who can blame them?
Many have argued, however, that despite his red card, FIFA have set a precedent by suspending Folarin Balogun's sending-off, and that the same should apply here.
Who else could Liverpool sign instead this summer?
It is evident that Andoni Iraola needs to restock his backline ahead of the new season, but the fans appear to have agreed that Quansah is not the solution.
While Tottenham Hotspur's Micky van de Ven looks to have been ruled out as an option, Joel Ordonez of Club Brugge and Borussia Dortmund's Nico Schlotterbeck are on the club's radar.
There are no signs that Van Dijk is set to call quits on his time at Anfield, but at 34 years of age, soon to be 35, Liverpool need a contigency plan in place.
It will be extremely difficult for the Reds to replace the Dutchman, who has been a towering figure on Merseyside for the last nine seasons, but it must be done.
