'Spurs have gone transfer crazy' - Liverpool backed to 'release' Cody Gakpo after new deal

Tottenham Hotspur could still yet secure a move for Cody Gakpo this summer as Liverpool continue to sign players.

That is according to former Manchester City financial adviser Stefan Borson, who exclusively told Football Insider that the Reds' next piece of business could trigger the Dutch winger's exit.

He has described Spurs as going "transfer crazy" under Roberto De Zerbi, with Savinho and Omar Marmoush both arriving from Man City.

The duo join Sandro Tonali, Mateus Fernandes and Jan Paul van Hecke, while several others have arrived as free agents earlier in the window.

It has been quite the summer at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, and the Lilywhites not be done just yet. But one of their next deals does depend heavily on Liverpool.

Andoni Iraola looks set to add PSG star Bradley Barcola to his squad before the window shuts, but it is believed that the Reds could sign yet another forward.

'Transfer crazy' Tottenham to sign Cody Gakpo

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, Borson has suggested that the next player through the Anfield doors should finally trigger Gakpo's move to Spurs.

"They clearly want another winger. That, obviously, could release [Cody] Gakpo to go to Spurs," he said.

"They seem to just be waiting for Liverpool to sign a second forward. So I still think there will be more business.

"But it's extraordinary what's happened at the very top of the game this summer. Spurs have gone transfer crazy."

A deal won't come cheap, though, especially at this point in the transfer window, with the Reds wanting north of £65m to seal the deal.

When can Liverpool fans expect Bradley Barcola to be announced?

Barcola's arrival may be all that Liverpool need to sanction Gakpo's exit, but there is still no official announcement for the France international.

It is understood that the deal should be confirmed in the next 24 hours, with just four days remaining until the transfer window slams shut.

Iraola has certainly done some interesting business, but so far, the supporters have been left disappointed by the lack of incomings.

Having lost Mohamed Salah, Ibrahima Konate and Andy Robertson on free transfer, fans expected much more during the transfer window.
