'Lot of tired legs' – Armstrong makes admission about Celtic break
Celtic midfielder Stuart Armstrong has admitted that the winter break come at exactly the right time for a team which has been playing practically non-stop since July.
The Hoops are set to head to Dubai for a week before returning to domestic duties in the Scottish Cup against Brechin on the 20th of January.
Armstrong, speaking to the Celtic View as quoted by Celtic’s official website, thinks that the busy schedule has contributed to some indifferent performances, most recently in the goal less Old Firm derby.
“For me personally, it’s what I needed,” Armstrong said. “There are a lot of tired legs and that can be seen by the number of games we have played and the amount of effort we have put into each match.
“The break has come at a nice time and I’m looking forward to it.”
Armstrong’s form has suffered in comparison to last season, as he has scored only three goals so far this season, and will find it difficult to match the 17 he scored last season.
The Hoops’ schedule began with the three Champions League qualifying rounds that ran throughout July and August, and concluded with nine games in December, not to mention the Champions League group stage matches.
Despite the seemingly endless football, the Bhoys have a healthy eight point lead over Aberdeen at the top of the Scottish Premiership table.
They have also retained the Betfred Cup and qualified for the Europa League last 32, with a tie against Zenit on the horizon.
