Lucas Digne facing Aston Villa axe after source’s update today – expert
Alan Hutton has insisted Lucas Digne could leave Aston Villa this month.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Villa right-back said they cannot have three left-backs competing for a place in the side.
Football Insider revealed today (11 January) that the Villans have had a £12.5million bid accepted by Real Betis for Alex Moreno.
The 29-year-old will fly to Birmingham today to complete his medical and he is expected to become the first choice left-back when he signs.
Sources have now told this site that Unai Emery’s side are willing to listen to offers for Digne, just a year after his arrival from Everton.
Hutton suggested Digne has not lived up to the hype surrounding his arrival from Everton.
“You are not going to bring in another left-back and have three sitting there it is pointless,” he told Football Insider.
“Digne came with a big reputation, he has not really hit the heights that we all thought. He is still a right good player.
“Only the manager will know what he is thinking for the future.
“This is the thing when you have got a manager that comes from Spain, they tend to go back there to people they know and trust. He knows what Moreno is capable of.

“Moreno would be a good signing but that would mean somebody would have to leave.
“You can’t sit with three players that are desperate to play and capable of playing in the first team.“
