Lucas Paqueta: Expert ‘sure’ Newcastle United tabling bid for Bruno Guimaraes ‘mate’ after development

Paddy Kenny has backed Lucas Paqeuta to reunite with Bruno Guimaraes at Newcastle in the summer.

The former Leeds United stopper, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, insists a move “makes sense”.

According to Le10sport (21 December), Newcastle offered Lyon €40million (£33.9million) for the Brazilian ahead of the January transfer window.

Paqueta, 24, scored and provided an assist for Newcastle star Bruno Guimaraes as Brazil beat Bolivia 4-0 on Tuesday (29 March).

Guimaraes also provided the assist for Paqueta’s goal.

The duo spent a year and a half together at Lyon before Guimaraes moved to St James’ Park in January and Kenny claims the pair could reunite in the summer.

“So they wanted him in January, I don’t see why they wouldn’t be interested again in the summer,” Kenny told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.

“He’s clearly a quality player and they have a player who knows him very well.

“To see those two players assisting each other for Brazil is all the proof you need that they are quality players, they are clearly mates who have a good understanding.

“If he wants to leave Lyon, I’m sure Newcastle will put an offer in and see if they can get him.

“As long as a top, top team like Man City or Liverpool want him then you can see Newcastle maybe getting that done.

“As a safe Premier League team, these are the kinds of deals they should be getting over the line if they want to really push on.”
