Luis Diaz reacts to ‘unforgettable’ message from Liverpool’s Nunez amid exit update

Luis Diaz reacted to a message from Liverpool teammate Darwin Nunez on social media and there is an update on the striker’s next destination.

Both forwards have had their ups and downs during the Reds’ title-winning campaign. Barcelona-target Diaz enjoyed a fast start under Arne Slot, racking up eight goals and two assists in the Premier League before the end of 2024.

But the Colombian’s performances tailed off midway through the year, before a late spurt saw the former Porto man finish with 13 goals and five assists.

As for the former Benfica forward, he found the back of the net five times in 30 appearances, whilst also registering two assists.

Nunez was guilty of missing plenty of gilt-edged opportunities on his way to registering his worst statistical season in a Liverpool shirt.

Football Insider Verdict

Pete O’Rourke revealed exclusively to Football Insider that Nunez will choose between moves to the Saudi Pro League or La Liga before departing Liverpool this summer.

It would be a shame to see the talented Uruguayan leave Europe at such a pivotal point in his career, although the lure of the Middle East is undeniable.

La Liga, though, screams of a place where Nunez could really find his feet and become the world-class striker many still believe he can be.

There are the obvious aspects, the climate, the culture, and the language, but also the fact that the striker-centric league has a habit of getting the best out of forwards like the 25-year-old.

Atletico Madrid, for example, have a storied history when it comes to the number nine position, and if Nunez were to link up with Diego Simeone’s side, it would be easy to see him thriving in the way that Diego Forlan did after leaving Man United in the mid-2000s.
