Luis Enrique could still take Chelsea job amid ‘big’ new claim – pundit
Frank McAvennie has suggested Luis Enrique could still choose to join Chelsea.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former West Ham striker said any potential manager would choose to join the Blues over Tottenham.
Last week (17 April), the Telegraph reported that Spurs are set to make contact with Enrique, who had been heavily linked with the manager’s job at Stamford Bridge.
According to Fabrizio Romano (24 April), the 52-year-old has ruled himself out of the running to be the next Chelsea boss, with frontrunner Julian Nagelsmann also dropping out.
Spurs are in the search for a successor to Antonio Conte after the Italian was sacked last month following a poor run of form that culminated in an explosive press conference during which Conte criticised the club and players.
The former boss’ number two Cristian Stellini took over and has overseen an equally poor run, their most recent humiliation coming at the hands of Newcastle United in the form a 6-1 defeat at St James’ Park on Sunday (23 April).
McAvennie suggested Enrique could still choose Chelsea.
“I think Chelsea is going to spend big so any manager worth their salt is going to go there,” he told Football Insider.

“As long as Daniel Levy is at Tottenham they are not going to spend that kind of money. You need to win trophies and build a team that can challenge.
“I think it is absolutely bonkers the money they are spending on players. It is incredible the way it is going but I think a manager would choose Chelsea over Tottenham.“
