Luke Shaw may be set for Man United axe after confirmed news – pundit
Luke Shaw may be axed by Man United after they completed the signing of Tyrell Malacia, according to Noel Whelan.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Premier League forward claimed Shaw “should be worried” about his place in the team.
Man United confirmed on Tuesday (5 July) that they had completed a deal for 22-year-old left-back Malacia with Feyenoord.
Shaw, 26, played 26 times across all competitions in 2021-22 but missed the end of the season with a leg injury.
“Look, I think everybody should be worried,” Whelan told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley.
“This is at every single football club in pre-season when you bring in new players, whether that be new signings or Under-23s that have had a good season.
“There’s no guarantee that your place is safe. You’ve got to turn up every single season and it starts from the first day.
“You’ve got to be fit, you’ve got to be strong, you’ve got to be ready to go and ready to impress.
“I do not believe that anybody has got a safe spot there. When it comes to the full-back positions, if you get complacent during the season thinking you’ll be in the side every single week it can very quickly bite you on the bottom.

“These players are not coming in to make up the numbers, they are coming in to take people’s places, there’s no doubt about that.
“When you play regularly for a team and Feyenoord had a great season last year he will be wanting to come here to take that place from Luke Shaw. It might get the best out of Luke Shaw as well because competition is healthy.”
