Mikael Lustig delivers verdict on Celtic future, reveals how long he will stay

Mikael Lustig has revealed that he plans on staying at Celtic for as long as possible but is unsure about remaining in Glasgow for the rest of his career.

The 30-year-old signed a new contract with the 47-time Scottish champions in the middle of January in a deal that will keep on Parkhead until May 2019.

Speaking to Celtic’s official Twitter account, Sweden international Lustig revealed that it was too early to consider staying with the Hoops until the end of his professional career.

“I’ve been here for a long time and I want to stay for as long as possible,” Lustig said. “”It’s too early to say [on being at Celtic for the rest of his career]. Like I said before, I’m really happy here.”

Lustig has been one of the first names on Brendan Rodgers’ team sheet this season, making 36 league and cup appearances in all competitions.

Able to play at both right-back and centre-back, Lustig has played an integral part in helping the Bhoys keep 17 clean sheets and has even found the back of the net once this season.

The defender is expected to feature against Inverness on Saturday in the Scottish FA Cup’s fifth round, as the Hoops look to complete the treble.

Now 27 points clear in the Scottish Premiership, the Hoops have already won the Scottish League Cup and will be hoping to add the FA Cup to that list with a win over Inverness.
