Major breakthrough: West Ham close in on attacker, deal could be done on Friday – report
By Harry Sykes
Robert Snodgrass will undergo a West Ham medical on Friday ahead of a £10million transfer from Hull, according to a report.
The Mail claim the attacking midfielder has agreed personal terms with the London club and that the deal could be completed by Friday night.
It is said that West Ham have won the three-horse race to land Snodgrass even though Hull had also accepted a £10million bid from Burnley, while Middlesbrough had tabled an offer.
Hull manager Marco Silva admitted on Thursday night that the Scotland international could be heading to West Ham following talks between the clubs.
Snodgrass has not been training with the Humberside club this week after suffering a knee injury that kept him out of last Sunday’s Premier League defeat to Chelsea.
The 29-year-old is Hull’s top scorer with nine goals this season, seven of which have come in the league, and he has also added three assists for the relegation-threatened team that is only one point and one place above bottom club Sunderland.
West Ham manager Bilic has made it clear he is in the market for attacking reinforcements this month after the club’s front players failed to fire in the opening half of the season.
The burden for goalscoring has been taken by eight-goal leading scorer Michail Antonio, who tops the club’s charts even though he has spent some of the season playing at right wing-back.
West Ham are also working on acquiring a new striker, but have experienced frustration in their pursuit of a number of targets.
Bilic’s side are still working on a deal for Brentford’s Scott Hogan, but the Championship club are holding out for a fee of £15million for the 24-year-old.
The Hammers appear to have given up their chase for Sunderland’s Jermain Defoe after pursuing him strongly at the start of the window.
In other West Ham transfer news, the club have clinched a big-name deal despite being outbid by their Premier League rivals’ £65,000-a-week offer.
